About the Telecommunication sector

Safaricom is the sector's only listed member and the largest company on the exchange by market value, worth more than a third of the whole market, so its daily move steers NASI more than any other share. Revenue comes from M-PESA, mobile data, voice and the Ethiopian business launched in 2022. Results arrive for the full year in May and the half year in November, with an interim dividend paid around March and a final around September. Government and Vodacom hold large stakes; the rest trades freely and foreign investors own a sizeable share, so the shilling and global sentiment matter.
