Six insurers and reinsurers: Britam, Jubilee Holdings, CIC Group, Sanlam Kenya, Liberty Kenya and the state-controlled reinsurer Kenya Re. They earn from premiums and from investing the float in government bonds, property and listed shares, so their results swing with interest rates and the stock market as well as with claims. Medical and motor claims, regulation by the Insurance Regulatory Authority and capital rules shape the general insurers; the life businesses depend on long-term savings products. Full-year results arrive in March, and dividends, where paid, usually follow in the second quarter.
